9 Lessons by Confucius That Will Inspire You to Change Your Life
Confucius is no doubt one of the most important figures that ever walked on Earth. Confucius is the inspiration, the spiritual, cultural and social leader of ancient-China. He died in 479 B.C. but his wisdom still lives. He had a huge influence on the Chinese society and, basically, his philosophy became the religion and cause of the Chinese society for centuries.
In this article, we share the 9 lessons from Confucius:
1. GOOD THINGS DON’T COME EASY
“It is easy to hate, and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve, and bad things are very easy to get.”
You need to work hard to achieve what you want. You must always keep positive spirit and love inside your soul and heart to protect yourself from any harm and make yourself likable and admirable for the people around you. You need to always have a fresh perspective, clear mind and strong will. Your hard efforts will pay back sooner or later, as long as you believe in your self and stay persistent.
2. YOUR FRIENDSHIP CHOICES ARE IMPORTANT
“Never contract friendship with a man that is not better than thyself.”
Do not waste your time on people who don’t deserve it. You need to value yourself in friendship relationship and also, establish friendly relationship with people who are going to make you feel happy. According to Confucius, our social circles are critical to our happiness. That’s why we have to be very cautious who are we spending our time with.
3. KEEP GOING EVEN WHEN THE GOING GETS ROUGH
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
Never surrender and always trust yourself. If you have a cause worth fighting for- go all the way! There is no backing off, your efforts, like we already said, will pay off if your heart and intentions are clear. Your stubbornness will inspire others and will also inspire yourself to be more confident and persistent. Your hardships will make you more experienced, mature, stronger and immune to pressures and obstacles.
4. DON’T FOCUS ON THE PAST
“To be Wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.”
You need to let go off some things from the past. The ghosts from the past will haunt you for a lifetime if you don’t decide to dig deeper in your soul and memory and get over those things once and for all. If you want to live a fulfilled life, you need to be focused on your future, not on your past. We can’t change the past, but we can always change who we are and take responsibility for our actions.
5. GIVE IT ALL OR NOTHING
“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”
You need to fully invest yourself in the things you do. You have to trust in your abilities and give everything you’ve got to make something perfect. Maybe perfection doesn’t exist, but by your own cause, you can try to do the things closer to your own ‘model of perfection’. That will make you become better and better in all the things you do.
6. WATCH YOUR TEMPER
“When anger arises, think of the consequences.”
Anger fogs your mind with negativity and clouds your judgment. Temperament people are always dangerous to themselves and the people around you. You don’t want to be that person who intimidates and frightens others. Because of that, you need to, at least, try to remain calm in tense situations.
7. MAKE ADJUSTMENTS
“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.”
Sometimes it’s better to stick to a patter and attach to things. Those things and activities define you as a person and represent your identity. Identity without attachment is something impossible, but still, you need to be very careful not to get overly attached and lose your true personality.
8. EVERYONE CAN TEACH YOU SOMETHING
“If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.”
You learn things until the day you day and that’s how you should understand learning. Also, you must never underestimate others. You won’t ever believe who could actually teach you important things and even things that could change your life entirely. That’s why you should respect others more and be more inquisitive to learn what they know and what they want to share.
9. SHARPEN YOUR TOOLS FIRST
“The expectations of life depend upon diligence; the mechanic that would perfect his work must first sharpen his tools.”
Always think first, then act. You need to be cautious and work on your plans. Your preparation and overthinking could bring you a great fortune and success in life. However, you must not overthink too much, but find a perfect balance between your rational and emotional side.
