Powerful Spiritual Messages Hidden in ‘Star Wars’, Buddhist Teachers Explain
Star Wars saga is definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. This inspirational, motivation and certainly revolutionary artistic performance in the shape of a movie changed the lives of many. The latest part of the saga, The Last Jedi, was not very popular according to the critics, the true Star Wars fans were truly disappointed, but still, this movie earned over 1.3 billion dollars and ultimately number one in the theaters around the world. This is just another prove how popular and influential this movie is.
Anyway, it is not about the artistic value of the movie. It is more about the philosophy and wisdom passed to the audience. This is what George Lucas himself said about his movie and his intentions to accomplish more than just entertainment:
“I see ‘Star Wars’ as taking all the issues that religion represents and trying to distill them down into a more modern and accessible construct,” Lucas said. “I wanted to make it so that young people would begin to ask questions about the mystery.”
However, in this article, we share one very interesting concept of seeing Star Wars and its connection to spirituality. Enthusiasts proved the connection between the Jedi teachings and Buddhism. Recently there was a workshop called “Jedi Insights: A Force For Justice” that was held at the East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, California.Ikeda and John Ellis, co-teachers of the workshop that had about 40 people show up, said that most teens are like Rey. They may be inexperienced, but they’re enthusiastic and have the drive to be a Jedi. They’re just seeking mentors that can help them understand and harness the mystery of self-knowledge.
“They’re like, please, please, please, give me that spiritual training,” Ikeda said.
John Ellis said, “There’s so much going on, from the environment to taxes to education, that it’s easy to be overwhelmed, ‘Star Wars’ help us think about how meditation teaches us to focus on the task at hand, and bring our best self to it.”
The connection between Star Wars and the young millennials is also astonishing. It is a fact that over 35% of all millennials have no religious affiliation, but they base their spiritual views on philosophies such as the Jedi teachings.
Even the Catholic Church and the Pope Francis himself said that the world is changing rapidly and this era is certainly described by radical changes and a new way of living and thinking. Believe it or not, it already happens. In the UK you are able to choose Jedi as your RELIGION!
What do you think about this? Do you believe in the strong influence of Star Wars movie and the spiritual side of the Jedi teachings applied on the modern world and societies?
